God's Girls 08 Service Project

The recipient of the 2008 God's Girls service project is the James Connection. A collection will be taken at the rally to benefit The James Connection, and we will also be kicking off a fundraiser. Here are the details:

Each year, the Spiritual Direction Committee, which plans the God’s Girls Rally, chooses a service project to support with money and/or supplies.  Past service projects have included, a girls’ group home, cancer research and Children’s Hospital cancer wards.

This year’s service project is the Christian orphanage in Manipur, India called Angels' Place. This work in the U.S. is known as The James Connection. You may already be familiar with this extensive and important, God guided work.  Our goal is for each God’s Girls attendee to have a personal hand in supporting this worthy cause.  Up front donations are certainly still welcome. However, we are encouraging the girls and anyone else who would like to participate (i.e., other youth members, family, friends, members of the congregation,) to use additional methods to raise funds.   Below are a few ideas to get the creative juices flowing!

Service Auction (the teens auction their services to the highest bidder ex: yard work, baby-sitting, house cleaning, etc.)  For more details about this idea please contact me.

Car Wash

Dinner Theater – teens provide dinner and entertainment.  Ticket sales raise money.

Rummage Sale

Penny per text- this year’s rally will have a texting theme.  The girls/teens can pledge to donate a penny for every text they send in the month of November.  This could be collected weekly.  If someone does not have a cell phone or texting, a nickel or dime per phone call could be substituted.

Parents-Night-Out-   a night, time and place is designated. Parents who would like to have a few hours to themselves may drop their child(ren) off, for an amount per child.  The children can have a movie, games, popcorn…fun!

We are hoping that the girls and those raising funds will feel a personal attachment and a sense of fulfilling God’s wish for us to serve others.  It costs $35 per month to support an orphan at Angels' Place.  We thought that this amount ($35) would be a great goal for each attendee to raise.  This is certainly easier to attain if an entire youth group works together.  Maybe an even higher goal could be reached, but this is a start.

As an added bonus, the girl, or group that raises the most money per girl will win a prize to be awarded at the conclusion of the fund drive.

So that we may have some idea of what to expect, I will contact you in the beginning of November to see what method of fundraising you have chosen and how it is going.  The fund drive will conclude November 30th. Please send one check for your total amount collected along with the names of the youth that participated in raising the funds.  Make the check out to Holiday Park Church of ChristIn the note write “God’s Girls, James Connection.”                 1510 Abers Creek Road, Pittsburgh, PA  15239.

Thank you for your time.  I hope you have been inspired.  God bless!
